Character info
Name: Morag MacDougal
Age: 16
DOB: June 22nnd
Gender: Female
House: Ravenclaw
Bloodline: Pureblood
Hair color/style: Dark brown
Eye color: Gray
Other appearance details: Morag is of average height and weight for a sixteen-year-old girl. She has a light muscular build from extensive flying as well as rough-housing with her cousins. (Just because she's a girl doesn't mean they cut her any slack.) Her dark hair falls to her shoulder blades; long enough to look elegant but not so long as to get in her way after tying it back.
Family: Parents are Payton MacDougal and Epona Lennox, no siblings; the huge extended family of Clan MacDougal (she's close to her older twin cousins Ian and Owen, in the she-routinely-wants-to-hex-them way)
Pet(s): Nefertiti, a purebred and a diva of a Himalayan.
Positive personality traits: Cheerful, friendly, a love of home and family, protective of those she cares about (is especially fierce when it comes to the clan), the ability to express emotion, intensity, a great sense of humour, a sense of initiative, tenaciousness, a gift with finances, compassion, shrewdness, and intuition.
Negative personality traits: Stubbornness, self-indulgence, moodiness, clinging to other people (though it's only her family who see her like that – she's got quite the sense of decorum), bossiness, emotional manipulation, and over-sentimentality.

Best and/or favorite subject: Astronomy
Worst and/or least favorite subject: Herbology
Occupation: Student, sixth-year. After graduation she doesn't see herself taking on any sort of mundane job, seeing as she figures running the clan and overseeing the Muggles of Aberdeen to be the career she was born to.
Unique quirks: She plays the bagpipes, but out of respect for her fellow dormmates, she only does that when at home.
Character's personal boggart: Her father, dead and disappointed in her for her failure to protect the clan.

Brief history:
Morag is the only child of Payton MacDougal and Epona Lennox.
Payton was born the second of five children and the first son, so it was he rather than his sister who was named heir to the clan. Life before Hogwarts was an interesting one. His father taught by example how a good man of the clan lives by not only spending equal amounts of time with his children (slightly more with Payton; after all he was the first son) but by his treatment of clansmen and the Muggles of Aberdeen.
Payton was accepted into Hogwarts and sorted into Slytherin for the desire to protect his people from enemies and the zeal to do whatever it took to achieve those ends. His learning at home intensified along with his school studies, but he pushed through to graduate with honors. After Hogwarts, Payton contemplated working with the Ministry of Magic but then decided against it. He would rather be home with his kin then being forced to be among the English. Tithes were also collected from the families within the clan as well as a few non-MacDougal wizarding families who wished to be under the clan's umbrella.
The Lennox family was one of them.
Since Payton's father Connor had no intention of relinquishing his seat as clan head anytime soon, Payton was made an overseer so he could start building relationships with the families he would one day be responsible for. He met Epona on one such tour.
All her life Epona Lennox was an avid horsewoman. She practically learned to ride before she could walk because her mother would take her out daily. Unlike the MacDougals the Lennoxes were of meager income but still happy. Epona had two sisters, and all three of them had attended the local wizarding school. She was content with her life as a farmer. When Payton came to call to speak with her father, she swore she felt a spark jolt between she and the handsome young man introduced to her as Payton MacDougal and vowed that one day she would claim him as hers.
The courtship was interesting as Epona did the initial pursuing. Payton was flummoxed at first then flattered. She was insistent but not overbearing and he found he liked her strength of personality quite a bit. She also had a soothing manner with unruly horses and Payton began imagining her doing the same with quarreling clansmen. Finally he asked her out, and after several months of courting they married.
The discussion of children was an early one. Both wanted children (Payton a little more than Epona, owing to the pressure of continuing the line) but neither wanted them right away. Seven years of marital passed before they decided now was the time. Unfortunately, it wasn't easy. The first two children were miscarried early, so when Epona made it through the second trimester with their third it was a cause for celebration as well as worry as late-stage miscarriages were prone to be deadly to the mother.
So when Morag was born healthy and squalling loud enough to rival a bean-sidhe, a grand party was thrown. After the party, Epona told Payton in no uncertain terms that while it pained her to do so, she wasn't going to have any more children but since she had no intention of abstaining, she was going to get sterilized. Payton admittedly wasn't happy, but didn't want to risk losing his wife when he already had a child.
Still, Morag had cousins close enough in age to be like brothers and sisters to her. A bit of gender-bias does exist so Morag was coaxed to following the lead of her women-kin. Like her mother, Epona took Morag out for rides and nurtured a love of horses while Payton taught by example until Morag was old enough to understand. She roughhoused with the boys until about age nine when both her parents placed greater emphasis on how Morag should act like a lady, though Payton also made sure Morag was capable of defending herself verbally as well as physically.
Morag was socialized with other outclan Scottish families of note, as well as Irish and English. One of the main differences Morag caught onto quickly was the more comfortable Gaelic was used with the first two, while the latter was spoken to in English if not French. Though she learned to speak English well enough Morag found the sounds distasteful. French wasn't so bad (aside from her difficulty with it) except for the association in her mind with the old English wizarding families who felt they were so much better by sheer virtue of being English.
Payton was quite pleased when Morag's acceptance letter to Hogwarts arrived, and while he had wished for her to have been sorted into his old House he knew she would do well in Ravenclaw.
Her first year was rather uneventful (except for when the troll got in the castle). Second year had her feeling grateful she was a pureblood as according to Hogwarts, A History Salizar Slytherin favored purebloods, and with so many people (nevermind Mrs. Norris and Nearly-Headless Nick) getting frozen by the basilisk everyone was nervous. And then in third year with Sirius Black on the loose! Happily, her fourth year was much calmer. She was among the throng of Cedric fans and resented how Harry Potter managed to worm his way into the Tri-Wizard Tournament, and was as shocked by Cedric's death as anyone.
Her fifth year was spent resenting Umbridge and her changes to school procedure. She liked DADA and was aggravated by the lack of practical aspect of the class, so when she found out about Dumbledore's Army from overhearing Marietta Edgecomb talking she swallowed her dislike of Potter in order to join in on it. The experience of the secret meetings were a big help during her DADA O.W.L. exam.
Her hopes for sixth year are rather pessimistic, now that He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named has returned, though there is some glimmer of stubborn optimism.
Anything else: Clan info:
Boasting a tartan, the MacDougal clan had claimed the area around MacDougal Hall over three centuries before and had established themselves as the caretakers of that area, wizarding folk and Muggles included. A kind of silent agreement existed between the old families in Aberdeen and the MacDougals: the MacDougals would use their magic for protection and the residents of Aberdeen would allot a third of any income to the city as a whole as tithes. The Muggles also don't talk about their knowledge of the wizard clan and the MacDougals make sure to try and pass as Muggles while within the city. They're easy to recognize, however, because they all sport some article of clothing made of the MacDougal tartan and (naturally) are the only ones allowed to wear it. During the Muggle World Wars the MacDougal clan outdid themselves by casting spells over the city to keep enemy bombers from being able to find the city at night.
Writing sample scenarios:
1. Two of your character's peers approach him/her and try to pressure him/her into going into the Forbidden Forest with them. Does your character go? If not, how does he/she get out of it?
Morag outright stared, her potions text forgotten in her lap. A stunt like that she'd expect of Ian and Owen, but not her own classmates. "Are you both out of your bloody minds?" she asked, incredulous. "There is no reason for any of us to be going in that place! No, I won't go with you – the idea is ludicrous. Waltzing around the Forest at night; you're doubly a pair of fools." She gave the two of them scathing looks before picking up her book again and resuming her homework.
"Oh, come on, Morag..."
She stilled, then slowly turned her head around to glare at the wench, her gray eyes cold and hard as she mentally draped herself in that mantle of class she donned when dealing with rude people of lower social station. "You can go ahead," she stated icily, "but Flitwick will find out about it."
2. Your character is in Diagon Alley when someone casts the Dark Mark into the air. How does your character react?
The stuffed bags carrying her purchases dropped from limp hands as Morag just stared in outright disbelieving shock. The Dark Mark - here!?
She breathed a prayer in Gaelic as the few people in the street gathered there wits (so to speak) and started running around screaming. Heart racing and eyes wide with fear she somehow managed to palm her wand as she dashed to the nearest open store before the shopkeeper could bolt the door. Once inside the building (ironically the clothing boutique whose bags she'd left in the street) she backed away from the door, shaking and panting with adrenaline. She held in her wand in a white knuckle gripe, trying to calm down.
She held no illusions; she was still only a girl and considered her no match for the Death Eaters, no matter what the rumors flying around about Harry Potter and the Triwizard Tournament. She simply hoped the Death Eaters would have no reason to come find her.
